ADI acquires Test Motors to expand portfolio of condition monitoring solutions

Analog Devices, Inc. (ADI) announced the acquisition of Test Motors, a company specializing in predictive maintenance of electric motors and generators. Headquartered in Barcelona, Spain, Test Motors provides products and services that detect motor failures before they affect production processes and advise on how and when to perform maintenance. The acquisition expands ADI’s condition monitoring solutions portfolio, enabling the identification of equipment failures before downtime and catastrophic failures occur.

The acquisition is another move by Analog Devices in the industrial sector following the successful acquisition of OtoSense in 2018. OtoSense is a start-up that develops “sensing interpretation” software that learns and recognizes sound or vibration, enabling it to pinpoint potential problems in factory machines or car engines before they become serious. OtoSense’s artificial intelligence (AI) platform is dedicated to sensor interpretation and enables monitoring of any asset, regardless of location. Analog Devices plans to combine OtoSense’s software with Test Motors’ monitoring capabilities to create a solution that provides more advanced, comprehensive health monitoring of machines by capturing a wider range of potential faults.

“Machine maintenance relies heavily on experienced technicians and engineers who can detect and diagnose problems that can lead to unplanned downtime. However, as the number of machines requiring maintenance has grown rapidly, trained professionals are starting to outstrip demand. “With the acquisitions of Test Motors and OtoSense, ADI’s Condition Monitoring solutions address this shortage of specialized resources by providing customers with a complete system for early anomaly detection,” said Kevin Carlin, vice president of ADI’s Automation and Energy Group. , avoiding unexpected and costly machine downtime.”

The Test Motors team will join ADI’s Automation and Energy Group and work as a key technology group. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

“We are delighted to be part of ADI, working alongside ADI’s team of industrial technologists,” said Emili Valero, former CEO of Test Motors. “The combination of technology and expertise will help us develop the next generation of condition monitoring. solutions that will significantly extend the equipment life of electric and non-electric rotary machines and provide substantial cost savings for the benefit of businesses and consumers.”

ADI Condition Monitoring Solutions

Condition monitoring is not a single technology, but a system-level solution that combines technologies and solutions. With ADI’s portfolio of technology products, these solutions provide breakthroughs in MEMS (Micro Electro Mechanical Systems) sensors, flexible signal conditioning and data conversion technologies, processing and communications solutions with power combinations, and more to provide optimized wireless and wired condition monitoring solutions. Integrating these technologies into a deployable solution requires domain expertise, including asset and application insights, considerations such as mechanical design and accessories, and the ability to translate information into diagnostic algorithms.
